The focus of the Guided Discovery group is to provide a semi-structured, fun, and safe environment to help the youth and/or athlete with the opportunity to develop and experiment in many different motor patterns. Skill level depends on many factors, but for this group, we typically see kids ages 6-9 years-old.
As with the Guided Discovery group, the Learning Exploration group still needs a significant focus on outcome-based coaching with a gradually increasing focus on form. Again, the natural tendency of most coaches and youth fitness professionals is to over-coach with highly technical form-based instruction. Although this approach can begin within the 10-13 age group, it is generally best to avoid this temptation in most instances and instead focus on outcome-based instruction.
Train with application adds more complex training methods for adolescents. This stage and it's advancements depends highly on the young athlete and/or youth's physical and cognitive maturity. The above foundations should not be overlooked, even if the youth is within the 14+ age range. The program listed below is for youth that have established foundation movement patterns and prior athletic training.
